We are learning  to question what we read to increase our understanding.

East Timor.

East Timor is a small in Southeast Asia, it is a place where the temperatures are very hot and where there is poverty. The population is about 1.2 million people. During the hot seasons East Timor can get temperatures up to 47 degrees, and during cold times the temperatures will descend below 36 degrees added to this it is sometimes the place may get thunder storms. In East Timor it has been invaded by Indonesia and Portugal because they want more land and to take over countries. New Zealand soldiers went to East Timor to protect innocent civilians from any danger. They went not as soldiers of war but as ‘Peacemakers’.

There are different types of soldier groups. They are referred to in the article as
( A blue ) and ( A green ).
The blue soldiers were guarding, patrolling and with relate with people in the villages. The people particularly the children, enjoy the treats the soldiers give them. These treats are chocolates that the soldiers brought with them from New Zealand. The children's reaction to the chocolate made me think that perhaps they had never tasted chocolate. The soldiers talked to them about was is it like in their New Zealand.

The green soldiers explore the area for and bad people or danger. They go to places where it is not safe. The green group had to wear camouflaged clothing to blend in and sneak up on smugglers and criminals who steal and kill.

It was really interesting reading about life in another country.
