Would You Trust Your Buddy?

TRUST CHALLENGE
In preparation for our camp next week we had a class trust challenge.

This challenge had 3 important tasks. First was we got put into groups, the one's and two’s. Then we had to partner up with a student. Number two’s had to go behind a number one and place their right hand on top of their partner's shoulder. Next number two needed to close their eyes and put their trust on their partner. The last task was that number one had to maneuver his/her partner all the way to the big gate without a scratch.

When everyone had accomplished their mission to the gate it was now time for the number two’s to mentor their partner. But this time with a twist. The number two’s needed to guide their partner back to the class with a chosen route. We were not allowed in any difficult obstacles because we might harm our partner. Partners were allowed to go anywhere where it was not problematic to go through.

After everyone occurred at their destination (room8) in one piece we did a second test. We need to guide our partners through the class with them not getting injured. The room was trashed up with chairs and tables everywhere, it was a chaos. The same partners needed to agree who will guide and who will be pitch black. The guider needed to talk and explain where his/her partner needed to go. Once all the groups had established their role, everyone now knew how it felt to be blind.

New Zealand Helps!

Image result for east timor
We are learning  to question what we read to increase our understanding.

East Timor.

East Timor is a small in Southeast Asia, it is a place where the temperatures are very hot and where there is poverty. The population is about 1.2 million people. During the hot seasons East Timor can get temperatures up to 47 degrees, and during cold times the temperatures will descend below 36 degrees added to this it is sometimes the place may get thunder storms. In East Timor it has been invaded by Indonesia and Portugal because they want more land and to take over countries. New Zealand soldiers went to East Timor to protect innocent civilians from any danger. They went not as soldiers of war but as ‘Peacemakers’.

There are different types of soldier groups. They are referred to in the article as
( A blue ) and ( A green ).
The blue soldiers were guarding, patrolling and with relate with people in the villages. The people particularly the children, enjoy the treats the soldiers give them. These treats are chocolates that the soldiers brought with them from New Zealand. The children's reaction to the chocolate made me think that perhaps they had never tasted chocolate. The soldiers talked to them about was is it like in their New Zealand.

The green soldiers explore the area for and bad people or danger. They go to places where it is not safe. The green group had to wear camouflaged clothing to blend in and sneak up on smugglers and criminals who steal and kill.

It was really interesting reading about life in another country.

SWISH!

WALHT- We are learning how to add more detail to my writing.

On Saturday my Dad dropped  off to our basketball practise. He decided to watch my game.
When we arrived inside the Auckland Boys indoor court, I started to practise because that was our second basketball game. I started to get pumped up during my practise. Then our coaches called us in. When we got to him all my teammates were there we all sat on the bench.

After that our coach told us some things to remember during that game. Then he chose the first 5. I was one of them. (As always) I was doing the jump ball. The jump ball is when the ref has to throw the ball in the centre of the court, and 1 player from each team has to smack the ball back to their mates. Then I got ready I jumped as high as I could and smacked the ball to our side, so one of the players in my team could dribble that ball to the other side of the court.

My friends Jeremy caught the ball and straight away dribbled to the other side and passed it to me. I was so free the I caught the ball and took the first jump shot, luckily it went in the hoop and swish! I was so happy the i got the first shot in. After the first quarter was done I checked the points, the other team was leading by 4. I felt so tempted to win so I was the next five in the game. Minutes later the second quarter was finished we were in a tie. That is when I felt a relief.

Then on the third quarter is when the serious game started. There were passes and shots. In and out. Inbound and outbound. Crossovers and blocks. The game was so busy. Then minutes later the third quarter was finished. The it was time for the last chance to win. I was in the whole game. The last quarter was the best, even though we lost. At the end of the game, we teams shook our hands and I said “GG”. (good game).

The Big Chase!

About a month ago I was walking back to my house from the Panmure Library at 4:45pm.
Then when I got to my street I heard a bark and when I looked back I saw a big brown pit bull. It was probably the size of a “34” inch TV.

I sprinted as fast as I could around cars, behind trees and on the road.  Fortunately for me,  the owner heard the dog barking and recognised that something was not right and came out of the house and called the pit bull in. The relief I felt at that moment when I realised that it was not longer heading for me, was unbelievable!  Not surprisingly the speed that I was moving  slowed and I started to walk again.  My mind and body were not over the shock,  I was in colossal shock, my heart was pounding like a V6 engine.

When I got home I told my mum and dad about it. I have heard reports about people, mostly children, some even younger that me, being attacked by this type of dog and after this experience, I think  that every pit bull in the world must be professionally trained because they can be very vicious animals.

Chunuk Bair And The War!

WALHT write a summery by taking key notes of what I have read.

On 1915 soldiers from Australia and New Zealand rode on ships to land on ANZAC cove. There were over three hundred thousand men. They climbed up the high hills and mountain peaks , hundreds of men died with critical injuries and some was shot dead. There were dead corps everywhere and blood everywhere.

The day after they woke up at dawn between 4 to 5 am in the morning they climbed up the peaks again. What they did not know was that the Turkish soldiers were standing by getting ready to fire.
When the ANZAC soldiers got to the top they were even soldiers, seconds later gunfire exploded  everywhere and grenades whistled in the night air. . Everyone fell like rain.

In  the end no one knew what happened, but they knew that they had won the fierce battle. Over one hundred and fifty thousand ANZAC men died as a result of WW1.

This year remember all those who died and also that It has been 100 years since that war.
LEST WE FORGET!

The Obnoxious Bandit And The Willow Tree

There once was a bandit who liked to steal people’s valuables. The most valuable thing he had stolen was a 24 karat diamond necklace.
One dark midnight, the bandit set off into the dark, whistling woods. Each step made him more scared.  This anxiety was made worse by the dry crackling of leaves he stepped on resulting in a ‘CRUNCH’ that echoed in the dead of night.
Later he caught sight of a glint of bright yellow light. At first he thought that it was a fallen star, then he thought it was an angel, but NO!  It drew him closer ...Like a magnet he felt the pull and walked closer and closer and….. HAAAAAAAAA! Before him stood a golden shimmering  willow tree, It was the Willow Tree Of Mean.
This tree had power that lead to every bad person that passed by, getting caught. At that point, out of the blue, he heard a voice.

“ You have been bad, now it’s our turn to have vengeance “.  So the willow tree transformed him into a willow tree. No one saw! Embedded into the trunk of that Golden Willow is the face of that bandit, who was never seen again!
